This holiday season saw the release of many highly anticipated triple-A games. While there are many notable releases, we discuss some of favorites so far including Call of Duty: WW2, Wolfenstein II The New Colossus, and Assassin’s Creed Origins. How do these games hold up after hours upon hours of play? Did they live up to the massive hype they all received prior to release?
Our featured segment Deadliest Character is back! This week we see Bayek of Siwa (Assassin’s Creed Origins) take on Hawkeye (The Avengers). Does the new-aged super hero win out against the Assassin that started it all?
What’s Inside
- Call of Duty: WW2: Going back to it’s roots, WW2 returns to where the franchise started with their boots-on-the-ground gameplay. The campaign is your familiar WW2 fare following the Allied campaign through Europe; Your place is in the Big Red 1 crew starting with the assault on Normandy Beach. While nothing ground-breaking, it does offer enough to be entertaining to break up monotony of other modes. The strength of the game, however, is undeniably the Multiplayer and Zombies game modes. The multiplayer has all of the game modes you are familiar with, but brings a new entry to the series with the War gametype. A departure from the others, War features a linear style where you are tasked with either defending or attacking a string of objectives on much larger maps. Zombies returns in full force, turning up the scare factor to 11 and sporting a extensive number of objectives to complete to “win”.
- Wolfenstein II – The New Colossus: Three years after the release of it’s predecessor, The New Order, Wolfenstein II The New Colossus has finally come out. This game takes place a number of years after the first in a reality where the evil Nazi regime won the war and conquered the world. The game is not for the lighthearted as the opening cut scene could be summed up as one big punch to the gut. For the better part of the game you are in a war-torn and defeated America; The mixture of Nazi oppression and classic Americana is a unique sight to behold and experience. The game touts impressive graphical power wrapped around punishing but extremely rewarding gameplay. It has something for all in giving you plenty of options on how to play; Whether you prefer to go in guns blazing, dual-wielding machine-guns; Or sneaking through vents with a knife and silenced pistol.
- Featured Segment: Deadliest Character: This week’s matchup is a battle between Bayek of Siwa (Assassin’s Creed Origins) and Hawkeye (The Avengers). While Hawkeye has a technological advantage with his many different arrow types, Bayek has an expansive skill set designed to take out enemies without a sound. Who wins out, old school or new age? John and Mark debate and discuss who they’d put their money on.
- Assassin’s Creed Origins: This year saw the return of the Assassin’s Creed franchise following a two year hiatus. After the disaster that was Unity, and the lukewarm welcome of Syndicate did Ubisoft’s decision to spend more time in development pay off? One of the most notable effects is that the game, while experiencing some glitches as to be expected, is free of the game-breaking purgatory that plagued Unity. This game see Bayek of Siwa, the first Assassin and last Medjay take on a murderous organization ruling over ancient Egypt. The game touts very impressive graphics and extremely fun game-play, never giving you a lack of things to do with all of the encounter, main, and side missions.
